Dating from the early part of the 19th century this cupboard is a fine example of Swedish antique painted furniture. It is a sturdy country cupboard with tactile carving on the top and one shelf inside. What particularly distinguishes it is its wonderful distinctive peacock blue colour and painted panels which are original, perhaps added by an itinerant artist. Painted decoration was extremely popular at this time and large scale painted drapes and tassels adorned the walls of manor houses so the tassel motifs might be a reference to this trend.
