About

My own story and inspiration for creating the company lies with a very special family house in Stockholm. The name Kings Hat, or ‘Kungshatt’ in Swedish, belongs to an island near to the King and Queen’s palace of Drottningholm. It was on this island that my great-great grandfather Carl Augustus Svensson built a beautiful summer villa called ‘Klippan’ which was finished in 1886 and is still in our family today. It remains largely unchanged with much of its wonderful furniture able to be enjoyed still, including items from the period we deal with. Antique furniture for me is about both the beauty and function of the piece and the romance of bringing the past into our homes. The pieces I buy I hope will become heirlooms to keep passing down the generations.

My love of beautiful and historic objects has developed through my art historian’s background and my time at the National Gallery, London. I hold a first class masters degree in fine art from the Courtauld Institute.
